ABSTRACT/SUMMARY

Dete brings Heidi to Alm Mountain where Alm-Uncle–Heidi’s grandfather–lives. Dete is going to look after Heidi. At first, Alm-Uncle resents Heidi, but he eventually learns to love her and Heidi has a delightful stay with him. After three years, Dete returns and brings Heidi to Frankfurt to become the companion of a twelve-year-old disabled girl named Clara Sesemann. The latter immediately takes a liking to Heidi and accepts Heidi despite their housekeeper, Miss Rottenmeier’s disapproval. But as the days passed, Heidi becomes more and more homesick. Coupled with failing health and several instances of sleepwalking, the doctor advises Clara’s father to let Heidi go back to Alm Mountain. Heidi is reunited with her grandfather who is so happy to have her back. Heidi is overjoyed when Clara and Grandmamma came to visit her at Alm Mountain. Grandmamma even let Clara stay there for a while. Peter is jealous of the attention Clara is getting from Heidi. Because of his jealousy, he throws Clara’s wheelchair down the mountain. Without the wheelchair, Clara becomes more determined to be able to walk. Everyone is happy when Clara walks again.
