| Two boys are born on the same day – Prince Edward of Wales and Tom Canty. The former is very rich while the latter is very poor.
The two boys meet one day and decide to switch clothes. While dressed in pauper’s rags, Prince Edward leaves the palace to punish the guard who treated Tom badly. But because Prince Edward and Tom Canty look exactly alike, the palace guard mistakes Prince Edward for a pauper and throws him out to the streets.
Prince Edward goes to Tom’s house to ask for help to be able to go back to the palace. But nobody believes him when he says over and over that he is the true Prince of Wales. Meanwhile, back at the palace, despite Tom’s repeated denial of his birthright, the court and the king insist that he is the true prince gone mad.
While out in the streets of London, Prince Edward learns England’s oppressive justice system. He vows to change the said system. That is, if he could go back to the palace… |
